How do you feel about insourcing? Do you see any potential dangers of one company controlling the world's supply line?
Imagine what would happen if UPS stepped in for the government and began transporting, maintaining, and supplying arms. A child could potentially order a gun, legally. A group of militant terrorists could order up a nuclear device, and have it shipped to the UN, or any other location on the planet.
It seems to be very efficient and beneficial to not only companies but normal people. And there is a potential danger like what jace said but i do not see that happeneing anytime soon.
I would have to agree with jace, I mean almost anybody can order something. An example would be a criminal can order a weapon. I think government should keep protecting our mail and not a company.
Mrs sheets i am sorry that i was not able to post this by 10:00 on sunday i was not at my house all weekend and got back late sunday night(which is when i Read)
I feel that insourcing is a pretty good thing. It allows a company with experience in supply chaining to do the supply chain aspect of your company for you. It allows the company to better its products because they are not having to focus on there supply chain and therefore can put a greater effort and more money into the designing of their products
Something that I found most shocking is that 13.5 million packages and brings in over 36 billion dollars a day. If UPS is inspecting these packages, then how do they do 13.5 million a day! Kind of amazing. Another thing that really stuck out to me was that UPS is managing major warehouse shipping, from Nike to Segrest Fish Farms. UPS is now going into major factories and analyzing the way they package and deliver, and they help you create the most effective way for you to get your products around the world, without spending a fortune.
It is my belief that insourcing is a great thing for global economy. Because of insourcing small businesses can go through UPS and go global making them a large business. With insourcing it also allows us to get products repaired much faster and with the same or better quality of repair. Although one business controlling shipping could be a bad thing, at the current it is vital for competitive marketing.
