Social activisim is people being empowered by the flattened world and being able to start coalitions from scratch and easily get their voice out. Examples of successes are StopTXU.com, and Muhammad Yunus' Grameen Bank.
Companies' reputations are being determined by their actual actions not by the quality of their PR people.
Old: your company develops a product, government approves said product, people buy product, everyone is happy
New: you develop product, you test it, government approves, farmers buy it, farmers use it, consumers say "we don't like this!" so a website starts up to remove product.
I could start on online petition for support and whatnot.
He helped extremely poor people get loans, he would give them the small loans as opposed to the banks' big loans, with no collateral. He did everything the opposite way a bank would for them, no paperwork, no collateral, small loans, and he would help with the big loans. That's microcredit.
It promotes entrepreneurship in emerging markets, beginning in Latin America. It helps start up people get tips, advice and help from people who have been around the block and know what they're doing.
Phnom Penh and he started a data-entry (Digital Divide Data) business for the people graduating from the higher education places, who otherwise would have found VERY limited at BEST job opportunities.
They went ahead and did it without asking for approval, and started up the Flat Classroom Project (http://flatclassroomproject.com/wikispaces.com)
Old: We elect someone who will solve problems for us.
New: we involve our community and customers in ongoing conversation about every aspect of the business.
I prefer the new obviously, who wouldn't?
It shows everyone has the power to see everything in the world now, and do something about it. The people "above us" can't hide anymore.
They're teaming together to promote a unified code of socially responsible manufacturing practices across the world.
Of course it's a good things, it keeps big business from doing big bad things, or at least tries.
He's saying the 3 things he points out basically: Doing business well is extremely hard, not many people do business well, and the frameworks and blueprints of businesses are terribly outdated. He's trying to make the whole business infrastructure cleaner, more green for one thing, and better for the people. More honest.

The end.

Social Activism is people having the ability to have a say in the world and what they want changed and when they do it. StopTXU.com was a website started in order to stop the construction of new environmentally hazardous factories and it was a huge success, it is the perfect example of social activism. This also means that the companies actions and not their media presentation are forming their reputations.
Old: The only approval your product has to go through is the government's and then people buy it.
New: Your product has to get the approval of the people in order to do well because if it doesn't anyone can start a petition against it and get the attention of thousands of people. I could even be one of the people to start said petition.
Yuus started a program to help poverty stricken people get loans previously unavaidable to them. It turns out that the repayment rate was incredibly high 98 percent. By doing business in a completely different way than normal banks, Yuus established what is called microcredit.
It is a site dedicated to promoting business in Latin America. It contains tips and advice about running small businesses.
Hockenstein created a business in cambodia to create jobs for the many higher educated people without jobs. He did this by giving them jobs in data entry by teaming up with the American Universities dedicated to the same thing. It has been incredibly successful.
These two teachers started up a program called the Flat Classroom Project which taught children about the flattening of the world by blogging about differnent subjects with teachers from all around the globe. They didn't wait on a curriculum change, they just went ahead and did it.
Old: We let our elected official solve all of our problems for us, which often results in an unsolved problem.
New: We get together and work together to solve the problem, which is much more effecient. The new is probably a better way, like i said it works better and it is generally more reliable.
His point is that now everyone can see everything in the new world.
The new HP Dell IBM alliance's collaborating is making a new system of doing business that keeps other big businesses in check and makes a good reliable system of work.
He is saying mainly that
1. Doing business well is very difficult.
2. Few do it well.
3. Our previous framework for society is hopelessly outdated.
